Beach Theme

by Tabitha Campbell
(Latta, SC )

My husband wants our kitchen to have a beach theme. Maybe yellow walls. I want dark marbled tile counter tops. How can we combine what we want and our kitchen turn out to look and feel like we're at the beach?

Giorgina's Answer: It is possible to combine what you are considering to give your kitchen that beach feel. Consider painting your kitchen walls in a light yellow color. This is a cool and soothing color that will make your kitchen feel more spacious and brighter. The marble counter tops are a nice touch because it is a natural element, which is what you are trying to accomplish – to welcome the outdoors inside.

Consider opting for framed art that features seashells, starfish, birds, harbor scenes, and coastal scenes. You may even fill jars with beach sand and small seashells and place them on your counter. Also, if you have a window in your kitchen, consider a beach themed valance. A nice accent for your kitchen floor is to include a small sisal mat or rug that features a coastal scene.
