Do you have a good dessert recipe for Christmas that looks pretty and easy to make?
I want to impress my wife this Christmas and I am not a good cook.
I don’t want to buy it because I want her to feel special. I know this is a little off topic, but I noticed you listed some recipes on your Thanksgiving post. Thanks a bunch.
Giorgina's Answer: How sweet that you want to do something special for your wife! Yes, I can help you with that.
Here are some quick holiday desserts that are simple and delicious.
Bourbon Balls
3 cups ground vanilla wafers (2 packages)
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup finely chopped pecans
2 tablespoons cocoa
3 tablespoons corn syrup
¼ cup Bourbon
Instructions
Place the vanilla wafers in a bowl and roll them between your thumb and index finger until all of the wafers are finely crumbled. Add the pecans, cocoa, corn syrup, and Bourbon to the bowl and mix.
Form into small balls. Roll the balls into the powdered sugar and then serve them on a lovely dessert platter.
Sugar Cookies
Makes about 3 dozen cookies
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar (white sugar)
2 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ cup heavy whipping cream
Rainbow sugar sprinkles
Christmas cookie cutters (such as, a candy cane, a Christmas tree, a star, and a gingerbread man)
Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, flour, baking powder, and heavy whipping cream. Mix everything until well blended and then cover dough and chill for 2 hours until firm.
Preheat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit. Grease the cookie sheet with butter or cooking spray. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to ¼” thickness. Cut into desired shapes using the Christmas cookie cutters. Place the cookies 1” apart on the greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle the cookies with rainbow sugar sprinkles for that colorful effect.
Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the bottoms and edges of the cookies are light brown. Remove the cookies from the cookie sheet and allow them to cool.
For nice presentation, serve the sugar cookies on a pretty Christmas platter.
