Decorating a Basement Bedroom

by Susan Fast
(Columbus, Ohio)

Our bedroom is in a basement; two walls are cement block and two walls are drywall. There are two glass block windows. Can you give me decorating suggestions? Should I keep the glass block windows uncovered? We'd like a relaxing retreat in this room. Thank you!

Giorgina's Answer: Your description sort of brings to mind an urban loft. How you decorate depends on what style you prefer. However, with cement walls, I am leaning towards a Contemporary Style. I would definitely keep the glass block windows uncovered because you want to welcome as much light as possible. Some decorating ideas include, painting the drywall a color that speaks to you. Calming colors to consider are light brown or light green. Try to incorporate accessories, art pieces, and an area rug to add color and warmth to the room.
