Furnishing a Hotel to Rent Out?

by Judy
(Surrey, British Columbia, Canada)

I am furnishing a 700 sq ft apt in the modern Shangri-La hotel to be rented out. It has chocolate hardwood floors in the living area. I was thinking a brown leather sofa, eucalyptus/brown fabric for the chair and area rug.

What color should the area rug be? And what about the table and chairs? I want it to feel bright and big. Am I on the right path?

Giorgina's Answer: The leather sofa sounds great. However, the eucalyptus/brown fabric color choices may make the space appear darker and smaller than it really is. For the area rug, I suggest a white shag or white flokati rug.

For the coffee table I recommend one with either a glass or mirrored surface. For the chairs, you may opt for either light yellow or beige tones.

Lastly, you may wish to incorporate a floor mirror. The idea is to create contrast by blending different color choices. In doing so, it will give the impression that the space is brighter, more open, and will definitely add more interest. The purpose of the mirror and the mirrored coffee table is to create the illusion that the space is larger.
