Hardwood in the Hallway and Bedrooms

by Gus
(Monroe, NY)

Our home is a split level. The main floor (kitchen/living/dining), the stairs, and the hallway outside the bedrooms on the second floor are all the same hardwood. We are looking to replace the flooring in the bedrooms (currently carpet) with a pre-finished floor. Does the flooring we choose for the three bedrooms need to match each other and/or the flooring in the main hall?

Giorgina's Answer: I would consider keeping the pre-finished floor color consistent throughout because the color could clash depending on whether the bedroom is immediately adjacent to the hallway. To help your decision, consider bringing home various color samples and place them where the bedroom meets the hallway to see if you like the color difference.
