Traditional Remote Control Holder?

by Tina
(Scranton, PA)

My mother gave me an oak (wooden) remote control holder that looks Country style, but it doesn’t really fit our decor. It has this little blue plaid piece of cloth that wraps around it. I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but want to use it. How can I alter the look a bit to make it look like it fits into a Traditional style?

Giorgina's Answer: I understand what it’s like to receive a gift that doesn’t necessarily fit within your decor theme. However, please don’t despair. There is a creative way around this.

You can remove the existing piece of cloth, spray paint the remote control holder using a in a color of your choice that is intended for wood material, and then replace the piece of plaid cloth by choosing something you like from your local fabric store. You can use a wood glue to attach the cloth and the result will be fabulous.
