What Color of Furniture and End Tables to Use?

by Lori
(Ontario, Canada)

We're building a house and it's an open concept living room to dining room and kitchen just around the corner. Our walls are a greyish-beige and our ceramics (at the front entrance and dining room are beige) and our hardwood is dark brown (living room) and our baseboards are white, and the ceiling is white. There's a set of stairs that go off the living room that are dark brown wooden railings and sesame beige carpet (sort of golden beige color) and we're looking for what color our TV unit, end tables and couches should be. It's not a huge living room, but big enough to fit a couch, loveseat, a couple of smaller end tables, and a TV unit. We don't want any coffee tables or anything too big. Also looking to see what color of dining room table we should have (our kitchen cupboards are dark brown with a brown/gold/beige marble counter (medium colors) - we're looking for a wood table. Any ideas for colors for art on the walls would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Giorgina's Answer: From your description, it sounds like you prefer neutral colors. For your TV unit, end tables, couches, and dining room table, you could opt for dark brown colors. Accessorize by including colorful decorative pillows as well as art that has colorful details. The goal is to ensure that everything blends in beautifully and a bright color will make everything pop. For instance, if you opt for art that features orange poppies, then consider incorporating decorative pillows in a rich orange color. Some decorative pillows have beads and fringes, which further adds beauty.
