What Paint Color Goes with Black Leather?

We recently bought black leather furniture. We are struggling to find a color that looks good with it. The room is currently yellow and the furniture looks horrible with it. There are a couple of complicating factors:

1. The trim and floors are a medium-golden oak. A lot of colors either don't look good with it, or seem to make it look more yellow, which we don't like.

2. We like the colors of the adjoining rooms, and don't want to change them, but this room color needs to fit with them. They are a pale terra cotta and a dark, brilliant navy blue.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Giorgina's Answer: While this is definitely a color dilemma, there’s hope. My suggestion is that you try to opt for a neutral color that is warm and welcoming, such as beige/brown colors. The beauty about brown colors is that since it’s neutral, it won’t contrast with much of anything and will actually add warmth and coziness to the space. Brown colors are also associated with taste and sophistication while at the same time is confident and calming.

With a brown color, your furniture will blend in with the flooring and trim allowing for a cohesive look. Consider adding decorative sofa pillows that feature brown tones as well as accessories and art to complete the look. You may wish to visit your local paint store and select paint samples. When you paint the wall using these samples, consider looking at the color during different times of the day to see if that is a color that you feel comfortable with because you would be surprised how color looks different during the daytime versus nighttime.
